Image Commentary North Eastern Arizona is considered the southern half of the Colorado Plateau. Here, rivers have cut deep into the underlying strata, and created spectacularly huge, vertical canyon walls. In Canyon DeChelly, from which the DeChelly Sandstone formation gets its name, mile after mile of canyon wall provides both 2D and 3D views of some of the most perfectly exposed examples of stacked, cross-bedded, paleo-sand dunes. |
