England 14: Hadrian's Wall |

Image Commentary A bitter cold dawn in February 2002, the mists cling to the craggy contours of the Whin Sill, a Dolorite intrusion that snakes from east to west across northern England, quite resistant to erosion. This natural battlement was chosen by the Emporer Hadrian as the place to draw the line against the marauding Celts. Today, the sun rises and wild stags bey just as they did 2000 years ago when Centurians patrolled the Wall. |
